Tenant’s Rights

To The Tenants of New York City

As a tenant that pays rent, you have a right to a warranty of habitability from the landlord and if you can prove any existing violations you may be entitled to a rent abatement.

To start a Landlord Tenant action against the Landlord for violating your Warranty of Habitability rights then you will need to start collecting evidence.

To learn how to collect evidence when you report a violation, just follow these instructions.

If for any reason, you experience a problem with your building or if you witness any other violation in your building please take action by collecting evidence and reporting it to the city.

To see a list of violations or to learn how to report violations, follow these instructions.

You can report suspected violations when they happen, each day as they happen when you visit: Parknorth.org/311

Anytime you complete the warranty of habitability form, you will receive a copy in your email inbox to use in court as evidence.

IMPORTANT: To obtain a 311 complaint number from the city just visit: Parknorth.org/NYC311

When you submit evidence using this warranty of habitability form, not only will you receive a copy to use in court as evidence but we have a better chance of having the landlord correct the issues and in many cases provide a rent abatement as a group for violations issued by the city.
